I had always had the intention of establishing a practice here, which I thought was out of reach with the malpractice crisis affecting the state and, in particular, the county. My wife and I moved from New Orleans soon after Illinois passed its malpractice cap, but we were both still hesitant to practice in Alton. My wife went to work for SLU, and I took a job with a clinic on the Missouri side of the river. After about a year, we both decided to make the transition into Alton.

I opened my practice a little under three years ago. I was forced to stop scheduling new patients about three months ago. The need for primary care physicians in the community is overwhelming, and building a practice has not been a long or drawn out venture. I have been busy since the first day I opened my office door.

Having been here for almost three years, I am beginning to feel settled in my practice. I am fortunate to work with and for a group of patients who seem to value their physicians. I look forward to coming to my office every day. I feel like I have added something to the community at the end of every workday when I walk back out of my office.

I am very happy practicing medicine in Alton. Although I am at the beginning of my career in medicine, and although the practice of medicine today is fraught with challenges and liabilities, I hope to spend many more happy years serving the community here in the Riverbend community.

Dr. Kuebrich
Family Physicians of Alton
